New Bridge Over the Mekong Planned for Kratie
Cambodia News, Phnom Penh: The Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mr. Sun Chanthol, confirmed that during the visit of Chinese leaders to the ASEAN Summit in the next few days, loans will be signed for two major infrastructure development projects in Cambodia, including a bridge across the Mekong.
Mr. Sun Chanthol confirmed in a press conference yesterday that on November 9, the head of the Cambodian government and Chinese leaders will sign the agreement providing loans for the construction of a bridge in Kratie province and for the construction of the road from Skun to Kampong Cham.
The bridge planned for Kratie province is the first bridge across the Mekong to be built in the province, and will connect the east bank of the Mekong to Kampong Thom and Siem Reap, reducing the distance to only 129 kilometers. For the moment, travellers from Kratie province must go to up to Stung Treng or down to Kampong Cham in order to cross the Mekong by bridge, making the journey much longer.
Mr. Sun Chanthol said that the bridge in Kratie province will have a total length of 1,131 meters and a width of 13.50 meters, a type of steel-fiber bridge with a total budget of more than 56 million dollars.
