What is available depends a lot on what you bring, so if you bring thirst and passivity, guess what : beer and stools are ready right quick.Lost50 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 4:23 pm No real advice but good on you for sharing your concerns.
Siem Reap is such a boring place, when I lived there booze was the only hobby I had.
PP is also a drunks paradise. I found that leaving Cambodia immediately sorted my issues. Not sure if thats any help but all in all it, I found Cambodia offered nothing. I do admire those that live there & stay sober or relatively sober.
You can always do like me & return for short breaks to relive the glorious days of being constantly smashed.
Cambodia is fine with a plan, a rabbit hole for those who lost balance, a death trap for those testing their luck or their stupidity.
Re: Drink Too Much, Time To Go Home
People get drunk when they drink. I have had 3 bars before, 2 of which in Cambodia, and I have to say that many bar owners here takes very little responsibility. When a customer got too drunk I would not serve them another unless they drink a glass of water between the drinks. If I had the slightest doubt about them not be able to drive home I wouldn't serve them unless they hand over their keys to the bike, simple as that. How many bars put here put free water with ice out and encourage the customers to drink enough? 99% of the bars would rather sell them another drink. I never sold one bottle of water in my place in sihanouk because when people are hydrated they eat and drink more since they spend less time hungover in their rooms.
Bar owners and bartenders need to take more responsibility, a drunken idiot doesn't know when to stop drinking.

I buy lotto rickets all time, with dreams to have the financial freedom to live my dream life of country hopping n experience new cultures months at a time, sadly my day to day life in Australia is already very boozy, would be scared to see what would happen if I didn't have a job to go to.

Re: Drink Too Much, Time To Go Home
Yeah. Noticed I’m falling into it as well. Started drinking heavier during COVID as there wasn’t much to do. Started becoming more of a habit. Terrible hangovers now and night sweats when the first two days when I take a break.
I think there is no real social stigma to drinking here. Whereas back home if you drinking everyday you’re shamed. My Khmer neighbors are always hammered and no one seems to care as long as they pay their bills. Maybe they are bored as well.
