Ophthalmologist recommendation.
Any recommendations for a good opthalmologist? It's been asked before but looking for up to date information. Thanks in advance.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Mega Optics, St 136 just west of St 51
Very knowledgeable woman, Ms. Socheat, great English, very honest has advised me several times not to go for an expensive option when a cheaper option was equivalent. Large selection of metal/plastic frames, including titanium ones
Has often done minor repairs to frames for free

Optometrist vs ophthalmologist
Despite what angsta states, it’s clear from reading through his posts that angsta supports the free FreePalestine movement.

Re: Ophthalmologist recommendation.
Dr. Do Seiha Eye Clinic Psar Chas comes highly recommended by a few folk who would now be blind otherwise - they have more than one location now i thinkJohn Bingham wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 1:38 am Any recommendations for a good opthalmologist? Re: Ophthalmologist recommendation.
Dr Do Seiha did a fine job on my wife's cataracts last year. He's had a small clinic Psar Chas for many years but now has a much larger and better equipped one north of the old one, Russiekeo I think. Try him.
Re: Ophthalmologist recommendation.
Have you ever just walked into a specialist's office and demanded a consultation?
Not likely in western countries, because they need a referral.
First, see an optometrist/optician. Then take the next step. I once thought I was perhaps going blind. I just needed glasses, 20 years after a radial keratotomy and 20 years of not needing glasses
JB, if you think you have cataracts, the hospital on St 110/ Norodom can screen you quickly. Before you spend lots of cash, find out if NSSF covers this.

Re: Ophthalmologist recommendation.
It is not for myself and I have a referral from an ophthalmologist in another country. I definitely don't need an optometrist.

I know JB is smart enough to know what to ask forschlarry wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 12:44 pmHave you ever just walked into a specialist's office and demanded a consultation?

Re: Ophthalmologist recommendation.
There is a world of a difference in professionalism and medical education and experience between an Optometrist and an Ophthalmologist.
If you were in Battambang, I would refer you to the Battambang Ophthalmic Care - BOC - Dr EK Sarou, which last year performed 23% of all eye surgeries in Cambodia but is unknown outside of north-western Cambodia.
If you were in Siem Reap I would refer you privately to Dr Kong Sunly, RANZCO Trained and supported and the Provincial Ophthalmologist at the Provincial Referral Hospital close to Pub Street.
But as you are in Phnom Penh then your best choices are Dr Do Seiha, head of the Cambodian National Programme for Eye Health (NPEH)and a very busy man to make contact with.
Or, to Cambodian Female Ophthalmologist, Dr OUK Soleaphy, also RANZCO trained and supported and only recently returned from working at the Australian, Sydney Children's Hospital Eye unit at Westmead.
Contact phone numbers available on request if serious and not just kicking tyres.

Re: Ophthalmologist recommendation.
Dr. Do has the best local reputation although he can be quite busy.
Meng Rutnin is ok for scans etc.
http://www.mengeyes.com/en/home
and provides a comfortable experience with good staff. $20 consult with Dr. Meng. Checkup and OCT scan $45.
Preah Ang Doung not recommended for scans - 'Printer not work' and unable to email digital copies, so they offered to let me take a photo of their computer screen with my phone :0) Cost $20.
As usual for very serious conditions Bangkok is recommended.
