Scary stuff indeed. I've seen so many news articles and videos like this that now that, if I have to use an escalator or moving walkway, I'm almost obsessive about making sure I don't have a shoelace or something dangling loose, or I'm not standing too close to any edges.

Workers 'forgot' to replace the bolts on the metal plate you step onto when you get off an escalator. A woman stepped onto the plate, it flipped over and she got sucked into the machinery. She was able to throw her son to safety but she was killed horribly. I remember seeing the full video at the time. To this day I step over that plate when I get off one of those things.
