It may be a coincidence, but 10 months ago, another Chinese man also fell into the very same canal, also at 3am. Let us hope that the police will fully investigate this death to determine whether or not it was truly an unfortunate accident, like the last Chinese man who drowned in the same place in similar circumstances***.

Authorities name foreigner who drowned in Phnom Penh sewage canal
Police have identified a foreigner who drowned in a Phnom Penh sewage canal in the early hours of Sunday morning

Police have named the deceased as ZENG YI, a 32-year-old Chinese man.

According to eye-witnesses, who asked not to be named, they found the victim struggling in the sewage canal at 3:35 AM on June 25, 2023 at the west point of Boeung Trabek Market. Street 105 is located in Village 6, Sangkat Boeung Trabek, Khan Chamkarmon, Phnom Penh

They tossed the man a rope, but the victim was not able to grab it and then sank to the bottom of the 3 meter deep canal

The witnesses got him out of the canal and performed CPR on him, but he was already dead.

An autopsy, conducted by Phnom Penh Municipal Police Forensic Office in cooperation with local authorities and doctors of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court Phnom Penh, later confirmed the man had died by drowning.

Police are now searching for the man’s relatives to conduct the necessary funeral arrangements.

On the night of 19 August 2022, an unidentified foreigner walked out of a nightclub and fell into the Boeung Trabek canal,where he drowned. This shocking incident happened at the canal along Street 105, Sangkat Phsar Doeum Thkov, Khan Chamkarmon, Phnom Penh.
