I don't use Passapp or Grab with an electronic payment system, but occasionally I get 'overruled' by another passenger as well. Apparently he or she doesn't check the license plate / windshield number / name against the data in the app. I do by default and some drivers will perform the name check too. In those cases I let it roll and order another tuk tuk using another app or by hailing one down. Of course no money lost.
