Desperate Unemployed Man Drowned in Village Pond
Cambodia News, (Kandal province): A middle-aged man was found drowned in a deep pond near his house in Samrong Leu, at noon on 16 June 2023. Mr. Bou Bo, Chairman of Samrong Leu Commune Council, said that the man was named Khon Mao, 51 years old, without a specific job, who had a wife Sim Pak, 49 years old, and two children.
It seems that the man took his own life through sheer desperation, because he could not find work, and he had no money to buy food for his family. The chairman of the Samrong Leu commune council confirmed that the man who drowned was very poor and had already sold his land in the village, because he did not have enough money to buy enough food.
The commune chairman said that on the day of the drowning, the man was seen leaving his house, seemingly exhausted, walking with his dog to the pond. Later on, in the afternoon, the villagers saw the dog still sitting there and the man's clothes left next to him on the banks of the pond, but since they did not see the man come back, they suspected that he had drowned, so they informed the authorities. They could not find a body, so they called in the divers from the 911 paratroopers who searched until the evening before finding the body.
After retrieving the man, the police conducted an autopsy, where they concluded that he had simply drowned and no foul play was involved. The man, who was poor and could not find a solution to his problems, had drowned himself in the village pond, leaving only his clothes and his dog, and his family waiting at home. When the autopsy was completed, the authorities handed over the body to the family for a traditional funeral. RIP.

This is one really sad article.

Extremely sad to read this story. What has this world come to when a man has to kill himself for the lack of some food.
Be your own toy.

Re: Desperate Unemployed Man Drowned in Village Pond
Sorry, he took the easy way out.
Sad for him, but even more sad for his family.
The wife and two kids are still starving.
Now without any hope of him ever bringing in food to them. With the added expense of them now having to pay for a funeral, when they can’t even afford to pay eat.
There is no social welfare system in Cambodia.
It’s a cruel truth.
