Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): A Facebook account named "Pro Sok Meng", who claims to be seeking justice as a relative of a man who died in custody, has unjustly accused Udong district police of inflicting body injuries causing the death of his relative, and is demanding US$ 5,000 compensation for the family.
There is no firm proof beyond this allegation, and in reply, the Kampong Speu Provincial Police Department has clarified that "this is not true."

Mon Moeun Pros, 42 years old, Khmer, was remanded in custody in Kampong Speu Provincial Prison on a crime of rape on June 9, 2023 at Thla Chas village, Sangkat Veal Pun, Udong Mechey city, Kampong Speu province, on Order No. 734 by Lim Makorn, Investigating Judge of Kampong Speu Provincial Court, dated 13.06.2023.

As for the death, according to the Kampong Speu Provincial Police, "Please inform the public, especially social media users, about the case of Mon Moeun, who died in the car when prison guards took him to Kampong Speu Provincial Hospital after slipping and falling in his room."
According to the official autopsy results and confirmation from Dr. Leap Sophon, the provincial autopsy doctor, the deceased died of a heart attack. The body has now been handed over to the family by the prosecutor's office to be taken for cremation.

[Police say:] "Therefore, the information posted on social media which states that "the man died during police questioning due to torture with violence" is not true. The release of such messages on social media, without specific sources of information, may lead to public confusion, and affects the honor and dignity of the special forces. So please Facebook account owners, find and publish your sources clearly, instead of posting unconfirmed allegations which are in violation of the rights of the accused. Thank you."

I dunno, it seems to happen a fair amount even in Western countries. Take this guy, who literally choked on his handwritten paedophile list before the competent authorities could get to it and prosecute an untold number of nonces. What are the chances?!
