Meanwhile, elsewhere in Thailand
Meanwhile, elsewhere in Thailand
...the bloodletting in the restive South continues. A motorcycle bomb outside a hospital blew a little girl's leg off.

Re: Meanwhile, elsewhere in Thailand
few days ago multiple bombs went off down south
3 dead more than 50 injured,
expect the new government to start clamping down

Re: Meanwhile, elsewhere in Thailand
The ongoing situation in the south of Thailand has to be one of the least reported civil unrest stories. It's a steady stream of violence that goes under the radar and each occurrence only gets a tiny blurb in any media, even in Thailand.

^ 1) Just as with the Syria situation, where people are being killed continuously every day for years with no end in sight, you become numb to it. It almost stops being news. Big events still get a headline, but the death or injury count has to be pretty high in an attack to get much attention these days.
2) I'm not so sure the bulk of Thai people feel very connected or patriotic about their countrymen in the restive southern regions. Plus, the violence has yet to affect the rest of the country, so out of sight...out of mind. And for quite a while now, they have other prominent problems drawing away media attention.

That conflict has been simmering for decades if not centuries.
Last I heard 60 rebels died in a police van of suffocation/heat. 5-10 yrs ago?
sort of like our Native populations in various countries getting fucked over.

Tak bai was 2004
The south has its only problems for sure and one reason is the central government does not care .
Taksin basically said when he first came in that if u didn't vote for me , dont expect any help so from Chumpon south its been anti reds
and once u hit the far south they just want to be able to practice thier their own religion and allow there kids to go to non traditional school
PLus
Basically up to 90 per cent of the population of Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala and Songkhla – are ethnic Malay Muslims, rather than Buddhists. Three of the provinces once formed the independent Sultanate of Pattani, which was annexed only in 1909.
ever think its funny that they are referred to as Moslems done south
Not thai Moslems
Good write up,

Re: Meanwhile, elsewhere in Thailand
The bloodshed in the South of Thailand continues. The insurgents make repeated use of car/truck bombs. Judging by the extensive damage in the picture, it's very fortunate dozens of people weren't killed.
Police are seeking arrest warrants for eight people suspected of launching Friday’s bomb carnage in central Narathiwat that cut down pedestrians and signaled a renewal of southern hostilities.
Narathiwat provincial police chief Phatthanawut Angkhanawin said yesterday at least eight people are suspected of being involved in the attack. It was hoped the court would approve the warrants within a week.
A huge bomb packed into a stolen pickup exploded outside a restaurant on the main road near the Isuzu showroom intersection early in the afternoon.
...
The bomb planted in the stolen bronze Mitsubishi pickup exploded just after 1pm in front of a karaoke restaurant on Na Nagara Road. It injured 17 people and damaged more than 40 buildings
