Yep, it's not that much wider now days either. Some places, like corners it's a lot wider, but the concrete is same width as the old dirt road. Which fits one car. And there is already new trees growing and some parts it's still as shaded as before.

New Concrete Road for Kep
Image
Cambodia News, Kep province: Kep City Administration has announced that it will build a concrete road with a length of more than 700 meters and a width of 5 meters for the people in O'Krosar Village, Sangkat O'Krosar, Kep City, Kep Province.

Mr. Som Piseth, Governor of Kep Province, said that this concrete road will benefit the people in their daily lives, especially to facilitate the transportation of agricultural products to the market from O'Krosar village.
Image
Mr. Nhim San, an elder in O'Krosar village, confirmed that this road causes difficulties every year, especially in the rainy season, during which it is constantly flooded and muddy.
In the past, the authorities would make small repairs on the road from time to time, but as the road gets a lot of local traffic, it was soon damaged again. Once the road is concreted, there should be no more problems for the villagers to get to market in the wet season.

August 7, 2023
Thong Khon presides over a dissemination ceremony on the implementation of “Kep Tourism Development Master Plan 2023-2035”
Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, on Aug 7, presided over the official launching ceremony on the implementation of the “Kep Tourism Development Master Plan 2023-2035” and the preparation of the 10th Sea Festival, Round 3, 2023.

On that occasion, Kep Province Governor Som Piseth announced his support for the Kep Tourism Development Master Plan 2023-2035 and continued that the efforts to build the achievements are not only in response to the hosting of major events in Kep, but have also changed the image of the province, both regionally and internationally, attracting all investors, national and international tourists to visit the holiday season, which is a factor that promotes and improves the lifestyle.

Minister Thong Khon said that the master plan is designed to turn Kep into a high-quality luxury tourist destination with attractive quality, ensuring high competitive advantage in the region and around the world.

According to the Minister, based on the potential and diversity of the natural resources, culture, and history of Kep Province, the “Kep Tourism Development Master Plan 2023-2035” has set the vision to become Kep Province an “advanced luxury eco-tourism destination” by adhering to the principles of sustainable development, safety, quality, competitiveness, and smart tourism.

Khon instructed the working group of the commission to cooperate with relevant ministries and institutions and the provincial administration to organise cultural, arts, and tourism events in Kep province to prepare for maritime sports such as triathlon and sailing. He also urged efforts to promote and inform the public and young people about new tourism products in Kep.

In particular, he stressed that the team leaders must be prepared for the third round of the 10th Sea Festival to make this tourism event a success and attract more tourists.

disturbing news:

Appears to me Cambodia is intent on selling off everything it can and assuring the future is fucked for the kids

Tycoon’s Company Receives 1,247 Hectares Along Kep Coastal Waters for Satellite City Development
The government awarded more than 1,200 hectares of ocean in Kep province to a private company, which plans to develop the area — after it’s filled with sand — into residential homes and a “special tourism zone.” The deal is the latest in a long string of opaque reclamation projects along the southern coast.

A company linked to tycoon Khun Sear, TP Moral Group, received 1,247 hectares of coastal waters in Kep province to develop a new satellite city and “special tourism zone” according to a March 6 sub-decree signed by former Prime Minister HE and publicized in the Royal Gazette on Monday.

The land concession is spread out across Kep, Angkol and Pong Tek communes in Damnak Chang’eur district. In the same sub-decree, HE granted the Kep Provincial Administration 220 hectares for public infrastructure and the construction of a stadium in the same areas.
Much of Kep’s coastline has already been granted to well-connected private individuals and companies.

Coastal Communities Wary as Major Development Appears to Progress
Fishing communities in Kampot and Kep provinces are under threat as a coastal tourism project linked to the wife of a government minister is reportedly moving forward, the Cambodian Center for Human Rights said.

In a report issued this month, the NGO said it had found many local concerns while conducting a survey among five fishing communities slated to be affected by the Omni Kampot Development.

The report noted that one of Omni’s directors is Khem Rany, who is the wife of a high-ranking government official. Her husband has been reported to be Kao Kim Hourn, minister delegate attached to the prime minister. The Commerce Ministry continues to list Rany as a director, though officials previously told the Phnom Penh Post that she had stepped down from the Omni project.

The area near the Crab Market where they destroyed the atmosphere by filling in the land where they used to store live crabs in the water - all that gravel was laid and the beach refreshed for the recent SEA Games.

That yellow hotel looks nearly open

Just remembered I has some photos the day before the games started.

The PM was down and the army, police and serious machine gun dudes in black were everywhere. They set up a camp barracks near Kep West.

The largest of the 4 concert stages was near the Crab Market
