Almost 900 Journalists Register for ASEAN Para Games 2023

As of June 2, 2023, almost 900 journalists have registered to cover the 12th ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia to officially kick off tomorrow.

The figure was shared by H.E. Phos Sovann, Director General of the Ministry of Information’s General Department of Information and Broadcasting (INB) and Chairman of the Information and Broadcasting Commission of the Cambodian SEA Games-ASEAN Para Games Organising Committees (CAMSOC-CAMAPGOC) at the Opening Ceremony of the Main Press Centre (MPC) and International Broadcasting Centre (IBC) at Morodok Techo National Stadium this morning.

ASEAN Para Games 12 flag-raising ceremony held

Phnom Penh (VNA) – The flags of sports delegations to the 12th ASEAN Para Games were raised at the Morodok Techno national sports complex in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on June 2, marking the official presence of the 11 sports delegations to the regional sport event.

Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration Nguyen Hong Minh, who is also head of the Vietnamese sports delegation, joined heads of 10 other delegations to the event.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hun Many, President of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) and Deputy Chairman of the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia (NPCC), extended warm welcome to the participating delegations.

The 12th ASEAN Para Games, slated for June 3 - 9, is set to feature more than 400 competition categories of 14 sports.

The opening and closing ceremonies of the 12th ASEAN Para Games will be broadcast live at three locations in public areas in the capital city.

Cambodia has completed preparations for the 12th ASEAN Para Games at seven locations in Phnom Penh.

According to the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia (NPCC), seven venues for 14 sport competitions at the Games include Morodok Techo National Stadium, Olympic National Stadium and Union of Youth Federation of Cambodia (UYFC), National Sports Training Centre, Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) and Naga World II.

The Morodok Techo National Stadium on the outskirts of Phnom Penh is the venue for eight events, namely athletics, swimming, wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, table tennis, badminton, blind football and volleyball for the disabled.

ASEAN Para Games 2023: Cambodia Grabs a Gold Medal in 3x3 Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Event

Cambodia bagged a gold medal in 3x3 women’s wheelchair basketball event after defeating Thailand 11-9 at the Morodok Techo National Stadium in Khan Chroy Changvar, Phnom Penh, this morning.

The gold medal was obtained after Cambodian para athlete Sinet earned two scores at five-minute extra time when both teams got the same scores.

It was the first gold medal for host Cambodia at the 12th ASEAN Para Games which will officially be opened this evening under the presidency of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE and his spouse.

Wheelchair basketball, the first sport to kick off as part of the ASEAN Para Games 2023, is taking place from June 2 to 7. The competitions are divided into 3x3 men’s & women’s and 5x5 men’s & women’s events.
Participating countries are host Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Laos.

A total of 2,692 sports delegates and athletes are participating in the ASEAN Para Games 2023 to be held from June 3 to 9: host Cambodia (343), Thailand (629), Indonesia (580), Malaysia (290), the Philippines (272), Vietnam (194), Singapore (131), Myanmar (131), Lao PDR (89), Brunei Darussalam (32), and Timor-Leste (31).

Fourteen (14) sports including Athletics, Badminton, Boccia, Chess, 5-a-side Football, 7-a-side Football, Goalball, Judo, Powerlifting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Siting Volleyball, Wheelchairs Basketball, and E-sports (Demonstration) are listed for the regional games with 431 sports events at the Morodok Techo National Stadium, National Olympic Stadium and other courts in Phnom Penh capital.

Cambodia earned 28 medals (7 gold, 10 silver, and 11 bronze) at the 11th ASEAN Para Games in Solo, Indonesia.

ASEAN Para Games 2023: Cambodia Jumps to 7th Place on Medal Table

Cambodia, the host country, climbed to No. 7 among the 11 participating countries on the Medal Table of the ongoing 12th ASEAN Para Games 2023, after earning 20 more medals, including 3 gold, 3 silver and 14 silver, today.

According to the latest update of the Organising Committee, as of June 6, at 10:00 pm, Cambodia got in total 43 medals (6 gold, 12 silver and 25 bronze), sitting behind Singapore with 28 medals (7 gold, 12 silver and 9 bronze), but before Myanmar with 27 medals (6 gold, 12 silver and 9 bronze).

Indonesia remains at the top of the list with 236 medals (99 gold, 83 silver and 54 bronze), followed by Thailand with 194 medals (75 gold, 71 silver and 48 bronze) and Vietnam with 129 medals (36 gold, 37 silver and 56 bronze).

Malaysia and the Philippines occupy the fourth and fifth places with 78 medals (33 gold, 27 silver and 18 bronze), and 66 medals (18 gold, 21 silver and 27 bronze), respectively.

Laos sits at the bottom of the list with 6 medals (1 silver and 5 bronze), preceded by Timor-Leste with 6 medals (2 gold and 4 bronze) and Brunei Darussalam with 5 medals (3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze).

The 12th ASEAN Para Games 2023 was officially opened on June 3 under the motto “Sport: Live in Peace”.

To take place until June 9, the regional para games accommodates 14 sports including Athletics, Badminton, Boccia, Chess, 5-a-side Football, 7-a-side Football, Goalball, Judo, Powerlifting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Siting Volleyball, Wheelchairs Basketball, and E-sports (Demonstration) with 431 sports events at the Morodok Techo National Stadium, National Olympic Stadium and other courts in Phnom Penh capital.

At the 11th ASEAN Para Games in Solo, Indonesia in 2022, Cambodia grabbed 28 medals (7 gold, 10 silver, and 11 bronze).

Cambodia Bags 69 Medals from ASEAN Para Games 2023
AKP Phnom Penh, June 08, 2023 --
Cambodia, the host country, remains at the 8th place on the Medal Table by winning a total of 69 medals, of which 9 gold, 18 silver and 42 bronze from the ongoing 12th ASEAN Para Games 2023 in Phnom Penh, according to the latest update of the Organising Committee.

The number of medals obtained exceeded the plan set forth by the Cambodian para athletes for the 12th edition of the ASEAN Para Games, i.e. 56 medals: 8 gold, 21 silver and 27 bronze.

Six of the nine gold medals were grabbed in Athletics, two in Powerlifting, and one in Women’s Wheelchair Basketball.

A 1,203-strong Cambodian delegation, including 896 athletes, have been taking part in the 32nd SEA Games that the Kingdom is hosting for the first time in 64 years under the motto “Sport: Living in Peace” from May 5 to 17.

Cambodia won 63 medals – 9 gold, 13 silver and 41 bronze – in the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam in 2022.

As far as I am aware this does not match the Olympics. I wonder what the difference is? Indonesia got 5, Philippines was 4, and Thailand and Malaysia tied with 2. The others didn't even medal...Where were these elite athletes in Vietnam and Cambodia 3 years ago?
