Fake Monks Get Deported

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Fake Monks Get Deported

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Cambodia News (Battambang) : On the morning of 23 May 2023, two Chinese nationals were arrested at the Bayon Guesthouse in Sangkat Svay Por, Battambang City, after they were denounced by social media users who posted pictures of their activities.
The two men, who were behaving suspiciously and going into people's homes to sell beads, are both Chinese nationals, identified as 62 year old YAN FENG LONG, and 61 year old LI RONG CHANG.

According to the preliminary investigation by the authorities, the two men only pretended to be monks, and they were going from door to door, trying to sell some over-priced plastic beads that they had brought from China.

The two fake monks were previously expelled from Kampong Speu province, and since they both have expired tourist visas, they have been sent to the General Department of Immigration at Battambang to follow legal procedures.

I would love to see them getting a flogging before getting deported. Then again, who falls for these clowns?

He said there would be doubters.
