The authorities, who came to the scene to conduct a forensic examination, dragged the body to the river bank far from the people's houses so that they would not have to smell it, as the man had been dead for about three days. According to the police, the deceased was a 40-year-old Chinese man named JIANQIANG WU. The man wore a pair of jeans, a shirt, and sneakers. On the body was a small red card with the words REWARDS written and the number 100443523, a phone, a phone charger, 6 passport photos, some Chinese yuan, a medicine, and a black backpack full of stones.

Oddly, he charged his telephone at the center before walking away, and was discovered floating in the river three days later.

According to the forensic examination of the police, the Chinese man died from drowning. The police took his body in an ambulance to Stung Meanchey pagoda, and reported the death to the Ministry of Interior and the Chinese Embassy.
