3 pages in and 5 dishes. Says everything you need to know really. Hardly a foodies' paradise.
You know that tingly little feeling you get when you really like someone? That's common sense leaving your body.

i love the Cambodian style pancakes>
very thin batter with minced pork and bean sprouts usually with onions as well (but i dont eat onions), dipped in a spicy peanut sauce

Cambodian Amok vs Thai Hor mok >>> Hor mok wins hands down

Lok lak is good, but all depends on the pepper sauce

Those thin, packed pancakes were one of my favourites- there was a little old lady on a peddle-trike used to do them on 110. I never quite got the name right- sounded a little like Ban Cho li.

More famous in vietnam for sure. But like a lot of these dishes its hard to find the origin.

Banh Chao/ Banh xeo etc. thin pancake with minced pork and often shrimp. served with loads of herbs and a dipping sauce I cant remember the name of. but basically fish sauce, sugar and lime. with chili and peanuts

Khmer Grapefruit and Pomelo Salad with Grilled Shrimp
February 4, 2023

Image
Khmer Grapefruit/ Pomelo Salad with Grilled Shrimp is a delicious refreshing salad, and it is very quick and easy to make.

For the dressing
1 tablespoon of sugar (you need sugar to make cut down the sour taste)
2 tablespoon of fish sauce
2 tablespoon of lime juice
2 Thai red chilies thinly slice
Mix the all the ingredients together set aside

For the Salad
2 Big grapefruit or one Pomelo peel take the seeds out and set aside
2 cups of chop Romaine lettuce
2 tablespoon of fry shallot (buy at the Asian store ready to use in a jar)
2 tablespoon of fry or roasted coconut flakes
2 tablespoon of roasted chopped peanut or any nut you like but make sure you roasted
Handful of mints or Thai Basil to garnish the salad

For the Grill Shrimp
1 1/2 cup of big shrimp or prawn
Marinate with 2 tablespoon of olive oil
1/2 teaspoon of garlic salt (I like the one from Costco it has parsley in it)
Let it marinate for an hour
Then grill until both sides turn pink for 4 minutes each side
Directions to make Khmer Grapefruit and Pomelo Salad with Grilled Shrimp

- First grill shrimps until both sides turn pink for 4 minutes each side
- When ready to serve arrange the salad on a serving plate with everything on it and drizzle with the dressing mix gently and top with mints or basil leaves and serve right away.

It’s a small bone of contention as I don’t use much, let alone a lot, of salt when cooking. The other half has jars of sugar, salt and MSG which I truly want to nail down and superglue shut.
There’s a much simpler solution for me. I just tell missus - don’t go to her friends house to eat much. Also don’t go to the Khmer parties too much. Whenever she goes, she gets a cough and sore throat. Same with me.

She grew up without food having heavy Prahok and loads of salt, sugar, or MSG. Consistently having cooked food was a luxury.
