Coming Up: Lots of Parties but No Booze Next July
CEO News would like to thank the organisers of the next elections for the information that beer sales will be suspended on 22 and 23 of July 2023, during the elections. This is thinking ahead - 3 months ahead. Heads up expats !
However, Rule Number 2 (See below - No wine or beer with restaurant meals) might take tourists by surprise, and seems excessively severe for the tourist businesses that are still recovering financially after Covid-19.
No Alcohol Sale for 2 days Before The 7th General Election
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh) 16 May 2023: The Ministry of Tourism announced that during the two-day period on 22 July and 23 July 2023, all sale and consumption of alcohol shall be suspended. During the elections, the Ministry of Tourism orders the following to be observed:
1. Owners or business managers of karaoke (KTV), entertainment clubs, bars, discos, and beer gardens throughout the capital, provinces must suspend business activities for 2 (two) days, 22 and 23 July 2023.
2. All tourism service owners or managers who provide food services must suspend the sale of alcohol for 2 (two) days, 22 and 23 July 2023.
3. The Director of the Capital and Provincial Department of Tourism shall disseminate and educate the owners or managers of the above tourism service businesses to implement this circular effectively and responsibly to contribute to the prevention of violence, threats, intimidation, traffic accidents, accidents and other phenomena that can be caused by drinking all kinds of alcohol. It should be noted that so far, the National Election Committee (NEC) has officially recognized the registration of political parties to stand for election as follows:
1. Cambodian People's Party
2. Cambodian Nationality Party
3. Democratic Forces Party
4. Khmer United National Party
5. Theosophical Party
6. Cambodian Youth Party
7. One Khmer Party
8. Khmer Conservative Party
9. FUNCINPEC Party
10. People's Will Party
11. Beehive Social Democratic Party
12. Local Democratic Party
13. Khmer National Unity Party

2 months ahead, not 3...
Driving on Cambodian roads is just like playing a classic arcade top scroller. The only difference is a force feedback controller, the limitation to only one life and the inability to restart, once Game Over

If someone leaves because they can't have a beer with their burger then clearly they were not a person of good moral value for the Kingdom.

No beer. No way of getting beer. It's looking grim. But it will never be as bad as Thailand is every afternoon.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
