Re: SEA Games 2023 - Schools to close
This is an aspect of the Cambodian education system that gets right up my nose. The utter disrespect demonstrated by the schools we encountered, for keeping parents properly informed of what is going on is surely based on how the education ministry itself sets the standard.
If the education minster itself does not respect the needs of teachers, students and parents, what hope is there for parents to respect education?

Just received notice from kids school that classes will be running as usual, they don't have to close during the SEA gamesPSD-Kiwi wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 6:58 pm FFS! Was just chatting to the kids and they've been told by their teachers that they will be learning online...no official notice from the school relayed to parents yet though. Thankfully kids were gifted laptops when we recently paid their annual school fees.

Whereas we were informed 2 days ago that the kids school up in the province will be closed from 5th April, for a total of 42 days. 6 weeks. Opportunity lost?PSD-Kiwi wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 11:43 amJust received notice from kids school that classes will be running as usual, they don't have to close during the SEA gamesPSD-Kiwi wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 6:58 pm FFS! It gets worse; for 3 days this week, the school has cancelled classes due to teacher meetings, and it is currently unclear if there will be any classes next week. The confirmation is being passed one day at a time…
7 week unplanned school holidays. Clever.

Visited my kid's school yesterday, one week holiday around Khmer New Year (week starting Monday the 10th), after that business as usual. This is a private school.
I have an another in-learning Khmer student in grade 10 studying in State School and it's still unclear for that school. My guess is that's the dividing line. State-private.
Both schools based in Ban Lung, Ratanakiri, so no association at all with the SEA Games.

Re: SEA Games 2023 - Schools to close
I'm friends with a teacher at a private school, who tells me his school is remaining open. However, they are just beginning a new term and many parents are reluctant to pay for another term because they think that classes will go online for a month, and they don't see why they have to pay the usual fees if the classes are mostly going to be conducted online. They are either choosing not to enrol their kids for this term, or asking for discounts. It has become a huge headache for the school.
The circular did state that all schools would have to close, both state and private, which is the source of the confusion and headache that the school has to deal with. It's clearly not the case that private schools have to close, and has caused a lot of needless stress.

are the universities open or close for the SEA Games 2023 ?
Re: SEA Games 2023 - Schools to close
Today was the first day after the Khmer New Year Holliday. All local state schools will remain closed for a month as per the directive of the ministry, local private schools ignore the directive and remain open as usual in fear of angry parents.

and possible for fear of having to give back tuition for no classes....local private schools ignore the directive and remain open as usual in fear of angry parents.
