Justice Secretary Boying Remulla disclosed that Negros Oriental Representative Arnie Teves was still in Cambodia, weeks after he was tagged as the mastermind in the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.

The statement comes even after calls for Teves to come back to the Philippines to face allegations against him.

“I think he is still in Cambodia,” Remulla told reporters.

The DOJ chief also said that he already spoke with another Teves, Pryde Henry Teves. The young Teves denied his involvement in the killing of the governor.

MANILA, Philippines – As representative of Negros Oriental’s 3rd District, Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. has made headlines for his peculiar way of navigating Congress’ lower chamber.

But in 2023, Teves made news after being tagged in criminal allegations and being slapped with murder complaints over at least three killings in Negros Oriental in 2019. The Philippine National Police (PNP)’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group also recently raided Teves’ properties on the basis of firearms with allegedly “fake” documents.

Suspects in the killing of Negros Oriental’s longtime governor Roel Degamo also tagged a certain “Congressman Teves” as the alleged brains behind the killing. Teves is currently overseas for a medical trip and has yet to return to the Philippines.

MANILA, Philippines — If the assassination of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo was a movie, its “executive producer” is Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr.

This was according to Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, explaining that the congressman was allegedly “financing everything” – guns, hideout, and vehicles.
"Finance – gun came from him, he was buying the guns; the hideout; buying the vehicle. He’s financing everything that’s why he’s a producer."

The Justice chief also said that of the 11 suspects under government custody, seven or eight have identified Teves as among the suspects.

“It’s the interaction among the people, knowing full well where they stay, the safe house used to escape, and the helicopter,” Remulla noted.

In an interview over the weekend, Remulla said Teves is the “highest mastermind.”

“Teves, Arnie Teves, Arnolfo Alipit Teves, mastermind,” he said.
He likewise mentioned that Teves was even referred to as “Boss Idol” by another alleged mastermind, Marvin Miranda, who arrested by authorities recently.

DOJ: Deportation ‘most logical process’ to bring Teves home

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) is considering seeking the deportation of suspended Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr., who is tagged as one of the masterminds in the assassination of Gov. Roel Degamo.

“Yes, that’s actually a possibility,” said DOJ assistant secretary spokesperson Mico Clavano in an interview with OneNews on Wednesday.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Tuesday said Teves may still be in Cambodia.

According to Clavano, deportation is the “most logical process” to bring Teves home since the country has no extradition treaty with Cambodia.
Clavano said he himself was surprised to know that the Philippines only has extradition treaties with 13 different countries.

Currently, 11 suspects, including one of the masterminds identified as Marvin Miranda, are in the custody of the authorities. Miranda reportedly recruited people to participate in the brazen daytime assassination of Degamo.

Teves has not yet been impleaded in the criminal complaints over the assassination of Degamo, which also killed eight civilians and injured at least 18 others, on March 4.
