Suspected Thief Hunted and Killed by Village Mob
7 Villagers Arrested After Mob Murder
Cambodia News, (Prey Veng Province): Seven people were named as suspects after the authorities found that they were involved in the case of beating a man to death who was suspected of stealing. The man was killed at around 00:20 midnight on March 30, 2023, in a rice field in Tamong village, Thkov commune, Kampong Trabek district, Prey Veng province.
The murder victim is Long Ny, male, 60 years old, living in Ta Bruy Village, Prey Poun Commune, Kampong Trabek District, Prey Veng Province.
According to people from the village, on the night of March 30, around 7:15pm, Un Sarean, a 45-year-old female resident of Tamong village, screamed out that she saw a man trying to get into her house. The woman's brother, Run Ra, who lives next door, came over with a flashlight and searched everywhere without seeing anything suspicious, but the woman went to spend the night at his house because she was frightened.
Then, at about 4 or 5 in the morning, the police came to the house and shouted for them to get up for an emergency. A man had been found dead in the rice field, after a group of villagers went out that night, hunting for the intruder that had made the woman scream earlier.
Afterwards, during the night, the police found the man's bloody body in the rice paddy, and they saw that he had been beaten to death. Police officers then woke up the woman who screamed and her brother, and also went to all the houses to question the villagers. The police collected evidence and subsequently arrested seven male suspects to question and build a case according to the procedure. All the suspects are men from Tamong village. The woman victim said that nothing had been stolen from her house, but she had been frightened by
the man's visit.
Currently, the seven suspects and exhibits have been sent to the Prey Veng Provincial Court for further legal proceedings.
