Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): The Phnom Penh Municipal Court of Appeal on the morning of March 31, 2023, announced the verdict of an appeal by a man sentenced to life imprisonment for drug trafficking. The appeal was denied and the original life sentence was upheld.

Mr. Plang Samnang, President of the Trial Chamber, stated that the accused, Phal Kosal, a 29-year-old Cambodian man living in Ban Muong Village, Stung Treng Province, was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined 100 million Riels, on charges of Illegal trafficking of drugs under Article 40 of the Law on Drug Control by the Stung Treng Provincial Court on November 28, 2019.

The accused was arrested on January 19, 2019, at Khikro village, Stung Treng province, close to the international land border with Laos. It seems likely that the drugs had been carried across the border by a drug mule, and were destined for Phnom Penh.
Police confiscated 2 packs of methamphetamine packaged as Chinese tea, weighing about 1 kilogram each, or a total of 2000.41 grams.
