FREE Tickets to SEA Games Events for All Cambodians (and Foreigners)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

LATEST UPDATE on 31 March, 2023: Tickets to see events at the SEA Games will be free to all spectators.

PM Says SEA Games Tickets are Free for Cambodians
AKP Phnom Penh, March 30, 2023 --
Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE stated clearly this afternoon that the tickets of SEA Games are free for all Cambodian people.

“We have spent hundreds of millions of U.S. dollars, including grants from our Chinese friend, and many years to organise this event, therefore I will not definitely allow any ticket sales for the opening and closing ceremonies as well as during the competitions,” he said in a special voice message.

Samdech Techo HE warned that any groups or any officials who act differently from the above recommendation will be responsible to the Prime Minister and the law.

“We spend millions of U.S. dollars; therefore, how can we sell tickets to our own people? How much can we get (from selling those tickets)?” he asked.

Cambodia is going to host the 32nd SEA Games from May 5 to 17, 2023 and the 12th ASEAN Para Games from June 3 to 9, 2023.
In total, 36 sports and a demonstration sport (teqball) have been listed for the 32nd SEA Games and 13 for the 12th ASEAN Para Games.

Next step: fall back to good old proven method to make people attend: hand out cash afterwards.

What a shame the money isn't spent on education.

They seem mighty worried that there won't be any spectators to be seen. How about serving free snacks (and beers lol) on top of that free entry?

Isn't this why the schools have been ordered shut?

Seriously, who wants to sit in a stadium in this heat and direct sunshine watching a bunch of foreigners running around in circles?

Are tickets available to be purchased at the stadium or are they going to release some half working app? Nothing like spending an hour just to purchase tickets.

Just walk in the doors. If anyone stops you, give them 20K riel. Problem solved.

Free tickets to a great sports event? Excellent!

I'll see if I can get my partner to take the kids to some stuff.

An international sports event in a state-of-the-art arena is not something kids who've grown up here get to witness. :Yahoo!:

If anyone is planning to go to the opening ceremony: you have to be there 3 hours before due to security reasons (basically, the Big Man will show up).
