How is it for HER in the west?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

We've been married for 3.5 years and she's been in Sydney with me for 2.5. My wife's very happy here but we get along really well and just want to be with each other 🙂 She's also quite a happy girl generally. She's now quit her job doing nails and is busy looking after our baby daughter full time. I'd worry if she were to get bored.

I've asked her..
Seems a lot to do with her personality and if your marriage is strong and that my family welcomes her.

One thing for her that's big is food. She needs her tuk trey, prahok and durians. Even if durians are $50/kilo over here. She also misses playing cards.

She doesn't have a lot of friends here but it doesn't seem to bother her much. She talks to her family and friends in Cambodia every day on fb, incl a Cambodian friend in America.

She wants me to be less tight with money lol but it's true I am tight with it.

We'll probably live back in Cambodia one day.

For me and her kids an absolute shit show. A friend said the other day how could one woman create so such havoc in such a short time.
It has been five years of alcoholism, problem gambling, outrageous numbers of men, money laundering working for the Thai gang. Just last night laundering thousands of dollars in a pokies venue.
She is well known to State Police, Federal Police and every govt agency in the city. The most amoral person that I have ever met. So much alcohol and drugs consumed on a liver already damaged by Hep B. This year a suicide attempt, several stays in hospital to detox, a 5 year domestic violence order, a life ban from the casino and me being sued by the GM of our local pokies venue for $450,000.
She cares nothing for her kids and they care nothing for her. They have seen her falling over drunk probably 500 times, virtually every night.
The only saving grace is that at 37 she only has a year or so to live.

Are you still with her?

That is one of the worst horror stories I've ever heard. I wish yourself and her kids the best after she's gone.

Not judging your relationship or your wife but in general I would consider this a RED FLAG, a serious one.

That's one fucked-up story. You need to get the fuck out of there. Grab any assets you can, get over here and we'll hide you in the boonies.

But you'll just get into trouble again, won't you? 8-)

My wife is Khemer. She and I have lived in America since 2004.She likes living in America but would prefer to live in Cambodia. We are going to wait until 2025 to see how the American economy does before heading back to Cambodia. We do not want to go back and be outside the U.S. if the U.S. dollar crashes. Also we want to try and bring our nieces and nephews here to attend university. We have a home on ten acres of land in a rural area in North West Florida. We have a fish pond and a few acres of woodlands and a couple of garden plots. My wife loves to grow flowers and trees and she loves animals she has even made pets of the fish in the pond.So she loves it here. But she also misses Cambodia.

I was planning to go but had my doubts before c19. Now I don't want to go back at all. Inflation hit hard. I see smiling and happy ex-colleagues on LinkedIn from big companies who are now offering their services as freelancers. We know what that really means. I can live comfortably on my pension here and the culture here is so energetic that it inspires the kids to work harder in all areas. The internet is reliable and affordable, and the wifey seems happy to be taking care of herself with very little help from me. The economy here is so much better than it was 10 years ago. I don't want to go to the west now because of all the weird gender politics. It seems that a conservative point of view is still maintained here on many issues, which suits me very well. I realize that I really miss the days of youth and not exactly the place I used to call home as it is today.

That sounds awful. I feel your pain but I am curious - where did you meet her initially? I am not suggesting you are like this and I write this with some sensitivity to you or anyone that winds up with a total psycho BUT:

I have met so many expats with horror stories such as yours yet they seem to be unaware of the fact that if you are a 55 year old + western man with some money, who has met and subsquently shacked up with/married a (pretty) woman half your age (or less) that you met in some bar in Pattaya etc then guess fucking what - she ain't into you buddy, she wants your money and when she's bled you dry: she gone! So many of these dudes act gobsmacked, shocked, rocked, love sick etc when it all goes tits up and all I think is - what did you expect from a 25 year old bar girl? Some knight in shining armor rescued her from the streets fantasy bullshit. You just got done! If there are two rules in the perils of dating south east asian women they're these:

1 You wont meet anything good after the fall of night; especially in a bar or nightclub.

2 She has got to have a job - doesn't have to be anything high powered, she could sell banh mi on the side of the road but she must have a job or a way of earning money that isn't through men or sex.
