Family Frog-Hunting Expedition Ends in Tragedy
Cambodia News (Kompong Thom Province): A tragic accident occured at 8:00 am on March 9, 2023, in Sakream Choeurn village, Kompong Thom province, when a 42-year-old grandma died along with her 4-year-old grandson while she was trying to save him from drowning in a rice field pond.
The deceased victims were:
- Ken Sal, 42 years old, female
- Nal Soheng, 4 years old, male
The witnesses to the accident were a 19-year-old boy, Nuy Piseth, and Keb Samnang, the 6 year old grand-daughter of Ken Sal. Before the incident, the four of them went fishing for frogs in the rice paddy near the pond.
Then, Nal Soheng went to wash his feet by the pond and fell in. Ken Sal tried to grab the child, but she also fell in, causing both of them to drown.
The 19-year-old and the 6-year-old went to the village calling for help, and the villagers ran to the pond, but it was too late to save the two victims. The autopsy confirmed that they died from drowning and the bodies were given to the family for the funeral.
