Cambodia News, ( Phnom Penh): Seven cars were damaged and one man was seriously injured in a fire that engulfed the Ly Chhay 696 car dealership along Street 1019 near the gate of Wat Samrong Andet, Sangkat Phnom Penh Thmey, Khan Sen Sok, Phnom Penh. The fire broke out at around 3:30 pm on March 10, 2023.

According to sources at the scene, a mechanic was repairing a Nissan car when it exploded and caught fire. Preliminary information suggests that the cause of the fire was the car's malfunctioning electric system. The blaze exploded and spread quickly, creating a lot of heat and oily smoke. The man who was working on the car suffered from burns and was immediately sent to hospital.

Meanwhile, the neighbors took fire hoses to help put out the fire, but they could not control it due to the intense heat, and they called the district authorities, who sent nine fire trucks to the scene. Lt. Col. Prohm Yorn, director of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Office of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police, said that in the time it took for the water trucks to arrive at the car dealership and extinguish the blaze, there were seven cars damaged.

Police are conducting an investigation to confirm the cause of the fire.
