Cambodia News, (Banteay Meanchey Province): At 3 pm on March 4, 2023, a Thai national was arrested at Nam Kieng village, Parai commune, Kork Thung district, Sa Kaeo province, Thailand, for the murder of a Cambodian woman. According to the report, the suspect was a people-smuggler and broker living in the above village, named Hong Khao Serevet (aka Hong), 51, who was trafficking migrants across the Thai-Cambodian border to work illegally.

According to an official at the Bureau of Serious Crimes of the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Police, on February 28, 2023, the body of a woman was found in the forest near the Cambodian-Thai border in Tumnup Dach village, O Bei Choan commune, O Chrov district. The body bore traces of blows indicating a violent death caused by foul play.

Police officials confirmed that after receiving the information, the specialized force went to examine the body of the victim and identified her as Svay Sopheaktra, 39, a resident of Phkam village, Sing Changha commune, O'Chrov district, who was returning home from construction work in Thailand that had been organized through a broker. She had left her son that morning in Thailand to cross the border back into Cambodia, when she was robbed and killed.



Cambodian police confirmed that on 4 March 2023, after cooperation with Thai border forces, the Thai police went to arrest Hong, the woman's broker, on charges of robbery and murder.

Cambodia News (Banteay Meanchey): Cambodian authorities have cooperated with Thai authorities in the investigation of the murder of a 38-year-old woman named Svai Pheaktra, from Battambang province, who went to work in Thailand with her family.
Returning to Cambodia alone, she was killed and robbed in the middle of the forest in Banteay Meanchey province.

According to the authorities, the suspect, a 51-year-old Thai broker named Hong Khao Sirivet, living in Ang Seila village, Thailand, took the woman back to Cambodia on a motorbike, but killed her in the forest across the border, and then fled back to Thailand. After receiving this information, an investigation combined with a forensic examination led police to arrest the Thai suspect.
