Gendarme Impersonator Arrested at Massage Parlor

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): On March 3, 2023, a man was arrested while collecting tea money at the massage parlor 30 meters from Damnak Troyeung village, Sangkat Choam Chao 2, Khan Por Senchey, in a case involving the impersonation of a military police officer.

The suspect, Sik Bop, male, 32 years old, currently living in a rented room in Toul Pong Village, Khan Por Senchey, disguised himself as a gendarme named Heng Sopheak with the rank of lieutenant. He was going around the massage parlors in Khan Dangkor, Khan Por Sen Chey and Khan Meanchey, collecting money. It appears that he had been extorting money and taking bribes from a number of businesses for quite some time before he was caught.

At the time of the arrest, police seized a gendarme shirt, a pistol K54 number 1952, 1 charger, 7 bullets, 1 holster, 1 Black Wave motorbike (with license plate Phnom Penh 1JV-2940), which were taken as evidence. The suspect has been charged with impersonating a military officer and for illegal possession of a firearm.

After questioning, the suspect admitted that he was guilty of disguising himself in a military police uniform, collecting tea money at massage parlors, and possessing illegal weapons. The specialized force of the Anti-Criminal Bureau of the Phnom Penh Municipal Gendarmerie prepared a case to be sent to court for legal proceedings, and on Saturday morning, March 4, 2023, the suspect, Sik Bop was sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for legal action.
