A prankster may have thought it was a funny joke to start a social media rumor that traffic fines would be determined by lottery, but the Phnom Penh police are taking this matter seriously.

Phnom Penh Municipal Police reject social media rumours that traffic fine amount will now be determined by lottery
The Phnom Penh Municipal Police Commissioner has rejected false information circulating on social media that traffic police will determine the amount of fines given to citizens who transgress against traffic laws by means of a lottery.
Phnom Penh Municipal Police spokesman Brigadier General San Sok Seiha stated today that the information – spread by a Facebook account falsely claiming to represent Phnom Penh City Hall – was ‘false information’
The Brigadier General stated that “Phnom Penh Police Commissioner would like to clarify and reject the publication of false information, which has the evil intention of polluting the social environment, which confuses the people.
Brigadier General San Sok Seiha also stated that the competent authorities are now searching for the owner of the Facebook page who posted this fake information to come in and explain the false information.
