First Royal Navy ship visits Cambodia in 65 years

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

HMS Spey became the first Royal Navy warship to visit Cambodia in 65 years, arriving to mark almost 70 years of diplomatic relations between the UK and Cambodia.

The crew of HMS Spey spent five days in Ream Naval Base, 100 miles southwest of the capital Phnom Penh, participating in a series of public relations events.

HMS Spey became the first Royal Navy warship to visit Cambodia since HMS Alert's visit in February 1958.
The river patrol vessel sailed into the port of Sihanoukville almost 65 years to the day that the White Ensign was last seen in a Cambodian harbour.

The two countries are looking to strengthen military ties, having accredited the first non-resident military attaché since the 1970s and welcoming the first Cambodian student at Sandhurst military academy.

HMS Spey hosted capability demonstrations, briefings, and a formal reception for senior Cambodian military figures.

Commander Michael Proudman, Spey’s Commanding Officer, said his ship and sailors had been warmly received in the Southeast Asian country.

The visit to Cambodia by HMS Spey came on the back of a five-day stop in Ho Chi Minh City in neighbouring Vietnam – with similar aims, marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between the UK and Vietnam.

What do you mean "looks like they had a good time" it's two pictures of a ceremony that absolutely no one there wants to be at

I can almost promise you more than 80% of the crowd were busy looking at their phones while these fellas were chatting away on stage

One navy guy exchanges pretty flowers with another navy guy, reinforcing decades old stereotypes.

Meanwhile, below decks, the laundry personnel exchange tips on dress whites.
Bong- your dress whites not same
Mate- that’s ‘cos we don’t don’t bleach the shit out of them, and we keep the supply/qm happy.

Looks like the HMS Spey has the last remaining all-white football team on Earth.
