Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): At 5:30 pm on April 24, 2022, nearby Phsar Deithmei market in Domnak Thom 2 village, Sangkat Steung Meanchey 3, Khan Meanchey, a body of an unidentified transgender person was found murdered in a rented roomwhich was locked from outside.

According to the neighboring tenants, the victim had moved in several months ago, however, they hadn't got to know the victim or what was her occupation. They added that for several days they hadn't seen anyone go into the victim's room which was locked from the outside.
Then, on April 24th, when a strong odor was coming out of the room, they went to see what was wrong, they found the body of the victim lying lifeless, and called the police.

The autopsy confirmed that the victim had been murdered by being beaten to death, and police have launched a murder investigation.
The body of the victim was given to the family in Kompong Speu province for the funeral, and meanwhile the authorities continue searching for the murderer.

So many people living in those houses.

Unfortunately not enough eyes & ears to have any clues.
Silly me thinking there might have been nosy neighbors, like, a brick apart....

UPDATE: ARREST MADE

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): Phu Seangtang, the man who was taken for questioning in the case of the murder of a transgender person in Khan Meanchey, Phnom Penh, has been arrested after he confessed.
When interrogated by professional police, the suspect admitted that on April 21, 2022 he murdered Khom Vandy, because the victim had a relationship with another man, and he was jealous. The body was discovered several days later, on 24 April, in the victim's locked room.
After the murder, the suspect took a phone and a Honda Dream C18 motorbike, ran away to his hometown in Kampot province, and then escaped to Preah Vihear province where he was arrested by the police.
The suspect has been handed over to the Chief Minister of Police of Phnom Penh City Police Commission to handle the continuation of the legal procedure.

UPDATE: Guilty Verdict

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): The Phnom Penh Municipal Court, on the morning of January 30, 2023, announced a sentence of life imprisonment for premeditated murder, in connection with a crime committed on 21 April, 2022, in Khan Meanchey, Phnom Penh.

Mr. Tieu Kimpisal, Chief Judge of the Trial Chamber of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, said that the accused was Phou Sieng Tbang, alias Leang, a 27-year-old male Chinese translator, who was originally from Sen Rong Roeung 1 Village, Teuk Krahorm Commune. Choam Ksan, Preah Vihear province, where he was arrested on April 27, 2022.
In this case, the accused Phu Sieng Tbang was charged with the "premeditated murder" of his lover, Khom Vandy, under Article 200 of the Penal Code. The two were living together as man and wife, and the murder was motivated by the jealousy of the defendent.


Phu Sieng Tbang confessed that he was jealous and angry because he thought that Khom Vandy was having an affair with another man, so in a carefully laid plan to punish his lover, he first put sleeping pills in the victim's drinking water, and then while he was sleeping, he strangled him to death.

The killer then stole his lover's iphone and some other valuables, including his motorbike, and he went back to his village in Preah Vihear to hide out. He was placed under arrest and taken into custody by police some days later.
