Suspect Arrested After Manhunt in Koh Kong Murder Case

Cambodia News, (Kandal): On January 29, 2023 at 14:55, the combined forces of Koh Kong Provincial Police, Kandal Provincial Police, and Prey Veng Provincial Police tracked down and arrested a 22-year-old male suspect named Phorn Chanra (aka Lien) at Doeum Ampil village, Kampong Phnom commune, Leuk Dek district, Kandal province in connection with a murder case in Koh Kong.

The operation was carried out under the command of His Excellency General Neth Savoeun, National Police Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner for Planning, Director of the Central Department of Judicial Police and His Excellency Lt. Gen. Neng Chuor, Director of the Criminal Police Department.

The murder was committed on January 27, 2023 at 22:30 at Botum Sakor district, Koh Kong province, when Lay Sothearith, male, 18 years old, residing in Chi Meal Village, died after he was attacked and sent to Andong Teuk Health Center for treatment.
Phorn Chanra, who was the prime suspect in the murder, had left Koh Kong province immediately after the event, and was being sought by national police when it was learnt that he was in Kandal. He was subsequently arrested and handed over to the Koh Kong authorities.

Cambodia News (Koh Kong Province): According to Yen Touch, a police officer in Botum Sakor district, at 10:30 pm on January 27, 2023, a dispute during a dance led to the murder of a teenager in Koh Kong province.

The suspect arrested by police was Phorn Chara called Lien, a 22-year-old construction worker from Monisela village, Prey Veng province. He is accused of stabbing to death an 18-year-old youth from Chimeal village, Koh Kong. According to the murder suspect's confession to police, the victim, Lay Sothearith, was stabbed to death because of a dispute between the two men while dancing.

The suspect is being held in custody for further proceedings, while the prosecutor prepares a murder trial.
