Siem Reap Man Builds Airplane House of his Dreams
ALERT: Heart-warming feel-good story coming up.
Cambodia News, (Siem Reap): There has been an explosion of interest on social media with the sharing of photos of a house in Siem Reap built as a model of an aircraft.
The story behind the construction, which is located in Phnov village, Siem Reap city, is an wonderful tale of a man persevering against the odds, so that he can fly in his dreams and live in an airplane. Even if he cannot fly in the air, he can still dream, and later he will have a legacy to leave to his family.
Chrach Pov, 43, who works as a "construction foreman", is not a rich man, but he has been saving money little by little for over 30 years in order to afford to build his dream-house in the shape of a model plane.
He has had a modest life, but because from the beginning he lived on the outskirts of Siem Reap Airport, he had the desire to have an airplane of his own,and for years he saved money from dozens of construction jobs.
Mr. Chrach Pov said with a smile on his face that he was really happy to be able to achieve his dream of having an airplane model as a house :"Now my wish has come true," the 43-year-old widower said.
He said that he finally started to build the concrete aircraft house in March 2022, and he completed his 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom home in January 2023. He is a widower with three sons and a daughter in his care; his wife died in 2013.
Moreover, Mr Pov is planning on getting remarried soon to a widow living in the same commune. Now that he has finished his house, she will be able to move in with his family. She said she is very happy with the house, but that, for her, the greatest thing about this achievement is the determination of this man to keep striving and never give up until he achieved his goal.

Inspired by dream of flying, Cambodian man builds 'airplane house'
By Chantha Lach
SIEM REAP, Cambodia, Feb 6 (Reuters) - A Cambodian man, inspired by a lifelong dream of flying, has built a home that is modelled on a plane, complete with a fuselage-like structure standing 6 metres (19.69 ft) above the ground housing his two bedrooms and bathrooms.
The concrete construction, which has mock engines, wings and a tailplane, was built by Chrach Pov, 43, and has created a stir in the district of Siem Reap province where he lives.
"I am so excited that I can fulfil my dream now even though it is not yet 100 percent done," said Pov, who reckons he has spent about $20,000 so far after saving up for 30 years for the project.
The construction worker plans to build a coffee shop next to his home for visitors and still hopes to be able to fly on a real plane one day, despite admitting he is nervous about actually flying.
