Cambodia News, (Takeo Province): Many leaked sources are alleging that the newly-appointed head of Cam Control Branch in Takeo Province is asking petrol station owners to pay a monthly fee in exchange for not being fined for any mistakes.

According to sources from many coffee table discussions in Takeo, Mr. Heng Phearum, the new Branch Manager of Takeo Province is demanding that owners pay him 200,000 to 600,000 Riel per month, (approximately US$50- $150), according to the size of the gas station. Those who agree to pay the monthly fee will not be fined for any irregularities.
Please note that there are 280 gas stations in Takeo province, both small and large, and do the maths.


Regarding the above allegations of corruption, Mr. Heng Phearum, President of Cam Control Branch in Takeo Province, said on January 25, 2023, in answer to questions by journalists, that no, his professional force does not order the gas station owners to pay a monthly fee. This is false. He added that journalists should come and have coffee with him if they want the true information.
