Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On 23 January 2023, a woman was robbed of her bag by a gang of 6 male suspects on three motorbikes, causing her to sustain serious injuries after she fell off her motorcycle vegetable trailer in the attack.
The victim was a 35-year-old woman vegetable seller, and the above incident happened at 7:20 pm on at the end of Stung Meanchey North flyover along Monireth Street in Boeung Salang Sangkat, Khan Toul Kork, Phnom Penh. This area around the flyover has become notorious for bag-snatchings and robberies, and the police are not often present.

According to the husband, he and his wife were driving a motorcycle trailer carrying vegetables from Doeum Kor market along Monireth Road, when suddenly a group of 6 men, riding three motorbikes traveling in the same direction, came up from behind them and snatched at the victim’s bag which was hanging at her waist.

The thieves failed to recover the bag, but the woman was dragged from the trailer, landing on the road on her head, and was subsequently hit by a tuk-tuk. She was immediately taken to the hospital by an ambulance which was summoned by local people, but the suspects escaped.

The local police force from the Boeung Salang Sangkat Administrative Police Station did not arrive at the scene in time to assist the victims or to pursue the bandits. Residents have long been calling for an increased police presence in the area to deter criminals, especially after dark. Many people complain that the area is dangerous because the police are not doing their job correctly.
