Battambang High School Teachers Criticized for "Old School" Methods

Cambodia News, Battambang: Recently, the public on Facebook was really surprised and outraged when they saw the strange actions of teachers at HE Sampov Loun High School in Veal Vong village, Battambang province, who were shaving the heads of male students between grades 10 to 12, even when they looked as if they already had short hair.

The teachers were shown in photos on the school social media page, brandishing an electric shavor before the class, and then "clearing" the hair of male students with short hair, as a kind of education method, accompanied by the comment: “school discipline by teacher and youth council”. But some of the students were in tears from being ridiculed, and many people believe that this is abusive behavior by the teachers.

Commenters on social media pointed out that the teachers were enjoying themselves and that one of the teachers had longer hair than some of his pupils. They said: "Teachers should stop educating people according to this old rule, because students do not behave according to their haircut".

However, when contacted for a reply, the school director of HE Sampov Loun High School said that the hair shaving was to enforce the school’s dress code, which includes haircuts, and individual schools have the right to discipline their students if they do not have a regulation haircut.
