Best BUDGET car to buy is ...

Post by Kingofthesky »

Interested to know if anyone here has purchased a car on a budget....

Knowing the price of the cars in Cams , there's no logic in buying a somewhat half decent vehicle @ $10, 000+ the maintenance

From what I see cars that are somewhat popular with local Expat are :

- CRV
- KIA VSITO
- KIA MORNING
-Hyundai ATOZ

In your opinion which is the best /least death trappy :D

Depends on where you'll be driving it

A Prius in Phnom Penh will ultimately be the better option over a 4x4

The roads in PP are atrocious & you will get better fuel economy from a diesel 4x4 without the fear of driving in a river of water; which PP tends to get. A newer Prius might edge it on the fuel economy, but that won't be $10k.I reckon.

On the budget end, definitely go for a Japanese 2nd hand though, Toyota, Lexus, Honda, etc - it will be the maintenance/repair bills that will bite as much as the cost of the car; not many folks out in the sticks can repair anything else & auto-recovery isn't so much a thing here.

15 years driving here, paid a lot of bills - just my 2 bob worth! :hattip:

I had a CRV. I think at $10k it’s a crapshoot in Cambodia, many of these cars were fucked and rebuilt here.

I liked SUV more due to rain and roads.
