Khmer440 is shutting down

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Khmer440 is shutting down

Post by BaronVonBaron »

A thread in the Cambodia Speakeasy section of The Forum That Shall Not Be Named says that forum will shut down permanently at the end of the month.

I hope those tossers and keyboard warriors don't end up migrating over here.

Now now, we are a haphazard community where many of us have contrasting viewpoints/opinions, so all are welcome. (Ok, "most" are welcome, maybe not "all.")

Congrats to everyone here who has ever contributed on CEO, as this community isn't going anywhere, thanks to you all, and a special thanks to those who help (and who have helped in the past) with crucial things behind the scenes, like the news and moderating, as it's a team effort to keep an online community up and running for years and years.

Surely you're also on the verge of collapse due to "the emergence of FB groups and the dwindling expat community that will never get back to it's pre-covid levels."

Sometimes it could be 3 or 4 days before a new topic was posted on 440. At least on CEO there are daily postings.

That's a quote from TOF (co- admin?) as to a key factor for shutting it down.

Whilst it's true some of the long time member expats have left, I've also noticed recently a lot more newbie members enquiring about moving to Cambodia post covid restrictions. So potentially 'new' expats for the community. Never say never as they say.. FB groups seem to me mainly akin to what we have under 'Ask the expats (Questions and answers)' and don't readily facilitate robust discussions as per the forums.

So hardly 'on the verge of collapse' for CEO. Perhaps there are other reasons for TOF's demise..

The other channel was/is somewhat encumbered with guests. CEO at least has to make them legitimately sign up to become a sock. There are a few members over there that are a true likeness of their CEO counterpart. How many real individual members are there?
Maybe we should expect an influx of memberships along the lines of GuestABCD.

Maybe a special K1/K2 level could be set up to accommodate them? Get their grammar and toilet habits tidied up?
