Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. Computer repairs

Post by Kangaruchi »

Does anyone know a reputable computer hardware repairer who can think outside the box?
I have a Toshiba Portege which I had someone load Unix on when I finally got it back he had broken the power on/off switch.
Everyone I've asked so far say can't fix expecting me to buy a new one, hence I need some one creative if necessary.
Cheers

Sure they rather sell you a new laptop instead, but I am also afraid you were not specific enough.

Toshiba Portege is a range of laptops, if you know the exact model number then search iFixit or YouTube for a guide to replace the part and check eBay or Amazon for the power button board itself. Toshiba Computer Portege Parts and Accessories, use to find the part number: https://toshiba.encompass.com/modelbrowse/TOS/2/2

That is a strange story, I can't understand why they are unable to fix it for you.

On Kampuchea Krom Blvd, there are a large number of computer shops. Some of them have technicians in the back. There was one particular place I went that seemed to be like a hard core workshop, but can't remember exactly where on Kampuchea Krom. Anyway, if it can be fixed in Cambodia, I guess one of those places can do it.

Thank you for the links.
I had the notebook physically with me at all the places so they knew exactly what it was and what was broken.
To explain further the button has fallen off and into the notebook
