Cambodia News (Banteay Meanchey Province): At 2:30 pm on January 9, 2023, in Kilometer 4 village in Poipet city, police arrested an 18-year-old man, Phan Sothea, for having sexual relations with a minor, a 13-year-old girl.

According to the report, the suspect met the victim on Facebook, and they had been chatting for about a week when the suspect asked the young girl to come out for a walk with him on the evening of January 8, 2023. Then, he picked the girl up on his motorbike and took her to his place, where he had sex with her twice, before sending her home.

When she arrived home, the young victim complained that she had been molested by her Facebook friend, who perfomed a sex act on her. The police then took the girl's statement before going to arrest the suspect at his house.
After interrogation, the man admitted to molesting the victim, but he claimed that he thought the girl had agreed to have sex with him because she didn't actually shout or struggle. He added that he only did it with her one time before sending her home at 8:00 pm.

The suspect is being detained in custody for further proceedings.
