Police Officer Shot Dead in Phnom Penh Drug Bust

Cambodia Breaking News, (Phnom Penh): Lieutenant Colonel Cheang Hok Se, Deputy Police Inspector of Dangkor District, told the media that there was a crackdown on drugs by the Anti-Drug Department of the General Commission of the National Police, when a gun battle erupted, causing the death of a police officer at 7:30 pm on December 28, 2022.

Lieutenant Colonel Cheang Hok Se, Deputy Police Inspector of Dangkor District, received a phone call that evening to say that a gang of suspects were driving a white Alphard car (with license plate number 0365), after the group had exchanged fire with the police during a drug bust before making their escape.

The Deputy Inspector continued that when the police chased the car up to the traffic light, the suspects were stopped by the Dangkor district police who arrested 3 people. The suspects are currently being interrogated by the authorities, but the details of the circumstances of the shooting of a police officer and his identity have not yet been made public .

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh):The policeman who died was identified as Mech Chhay Phi, about 30 years old. Lieutenant Colonel Cheang Hok Se, Deputy Police Inspector of Dangkor District,confirmed that the officer was involved in an anti-drug operation with the Anti-Drug Department of the General Commission of the National Police when he was shot dead, at 7:30pm on 28 December 2022.

Police are continuing to investigate and question the suspects.

Killer's Face Made Public

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): At 7:00 pm on December 27, 2022, in Khan Donkor, a 34-year-old police officer was killed while chasing three drug dealers in an Alphard van (No. 0365).

After shooting the police officer, the suspect threw the handgun away and fled the scene in a car. The face of the suspected killer was recorded, and has now been published.
The police found a handgun with 13 bullets. The evidence was kept for further investigation.
