Speeding Undersecretary of State Kills Passenger in Car Crash
Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): At 1:30 pm on December 26, 2022, one person died and four people were seriously injured in a fatal car accident that took place on National Road 3, at Teuk Thla Village, Sangkat Kraing Pong, Khan Dangkor, Phnom Penh .
The driver is identified as Theng Vanva, male, 34 years old, Occupation: Undersecretary of State, living in Trung Moan Village, Sangkat Obek Kam, Khan Sen Sok, and the deceased was a passenger in the car, Kim Chheang, 31 years old, living in Sangkat Phnom Penh Thmey, Khan Sen Sok.
According to sources at the scene, they saw a Prius car (license plate Phnom Penh 2BD-6574), driven by a man with four passengers, traveling at a furious speed along National Road No. 3 in the direction from south to north, when suddenly the driver veered off the road and smacked into a solid concrete pole (in what looks like a bus stop.)
The front passenger was crushed in the accident and died at the scene, while the other passengers were seriously injured. The driver, who sustained only minor injuries, has been detained by the authorities and the car has been impounded for examination.

The undersecretary of state drives people around in a Prius? No seatbelts I presume. Rip to the dead guy.
Re: Speeding Undersecretary of State Kills Passenger in Car Crash
How did the driver walk away with slight injuries? The driver's door and seat is completely caved in by the pillar.

Good point. From the other photos, the passenger cabin looks largely intact, and there's no head-smashed evidence in the windshield or side windows. Curious indeed. But I suppose there could have been a head collision with the B-pillar inside as the victim probably was not wearing a seatbelt.
PS Just noticed the windshield wipers are mounted for left-hand drive car. So yeah, the driver should be severely injured or dead.

It’s hard to tell from the photo, but have any airbags deployed? Were they even serviceable?
When I saw that the driver has survived, but the passenger died, I wondered if the photo was somehow reversed (except that it isn’t, of course). It appears LHD.
Crushed? By the weight of the passengers behind hitting the front seat?
