UPDATE
December 27, 2022
Hunt on for Indonesian human trafficking suspects
Banteay Meanchey provincial police and military police are seeking to arrest a group of Indonesian nationals who allegedly trafficked eight countrymen after luring them from their country to work at an online gambling centre in Cambodia.
However, when they were not able to get jobs in Cambodia, the eight Indonesians were driven to an illegal border crossing for them to be picked by gang members in Thailand and taken to a casino.
The victims were dropped off at the border crossing in Poipet City and the suspects drove off.
Provincial Immigration Office Police Deputy Chief Lieutenant Colonel Huy Sophath said yesterday that on December 3, provincial police spotted the eight Indonesians on the Cambodian side of the border and arrested them because they did not have any valid passports, visas or other related legal travel documents.
He said that upon questioning, the victims told them what happened.
“With the information provided by the victims, our provincial police identified the suspects. Police are now are searching for them in order to bring them to be punished by laws,” Lt Col Sophath said.
He noted that the eight Indonesian men said that in mid-June, they were contacted by an Indonesian man who can speak Khmer named “Tommy” and offered them jobs at an online gambling centre in Phnom Penh.
He said that when not finding jobs in Phnom Penh, Tommy and two other unidentified Indonesian men drove them towards the Cambodian-Thai border in O’Chrouv district in order to find jobs with a Thai-owned casino located along the border.

So, are they no longer arrested, because they are the victims?
