Is there a Cambodian GED option?

Post by Phnom Krom »

Is there any way a Cambodian can take the Grade 12 national exam as an adult? No schools...just pay and take the test and get the diploma?

It's possible if there's valid proof of passing grade 9 exam. But permission from the Provincial Office of Education is needed. That's where the 'just pay' peeks around the corner.

Ok...cool and thanks Kamenkor.
How about the same idea but to take the grade 9 National test? Same solution?
If, for example, we live in PP, thwn where/who for permission? If in Kandal?

I don't know about the grade 9 exam, never dealt with it, but there's no way they will allow 'stacking' the two exams without attending school. If grade 9 is also needed it's a no go.

In Kandal one has to go to the Provincial office of Education in Kandal province and ask permission, I don't know where it is. In Phnom Penh I am not sure. Formally Phnom Penh isn't a province so I don't know how they have organized it technically there. Maybe the ministry of Education Youth and Sport handles it (on Norodom Blvd), maybe there is a provincial office of Education. I expect the latter but I'm not sure.

From an article today

Nearly 60 years ago, the (USA) federal government established funding to provide free education for adults who could not read to help them improve their literacy and obtain employment. Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson recognized how low literacy intertwined with poverty and all the ills that came with it. The adult education system they built was supposed to give people everywhere a second chance at success.

Cambodia has a similar program, it's called the 'non formal education' program but it doesn't lead to a grade 12 exam.
