Yes, Thailand, you will be able to smoke potent weed at home

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

With the decriminalization of cannabis in Thailand on June 9th over 2,200 cannabis related businesses have popped up, and over 44,000 reviews have been submitted for these businesses. But we also cannot forget that over 1,110,000 residents have already registered for permission to cultivate cannabis in record breaking time.

The team behind WEED.in.th has brought a free product to make business promotion, and search easier throughout the Kingdom of Thailand for three different demographics.

For Cannabis Consumers

It can be hard to search for shops around you as many are newly added, or simply do not appear in relevant searches.

Don't worry as WEED.in.th has made it as easy to explore the most extensive cannabis shop list that exists. They are also making it easier to find your favorite strain, or specific cannabis product by searching through thousands of shops.

Oh Boy.......

Thailand bans recreational use of cannabis inside cafes
Cannabis shops and cafes in Thailand are no longer allowed to let customers smoke the plant recreationally on the premises anymore. On-site consumption of cannabis for medical purposes is still permitted if the cannabis is sold by a medical practitioner.

The announcement was made in the Royal Gazette yesterday and is effective immediately.

The announcement states that the Ministry of Public Health has declared the THC-rich cannabis flower as a “controlled herb” with restrictions. Two big changes come as big blows to the industry…

There were a couple of nice places at the top of Bangla Road where you could buy and smoke in there while watching the world go by.

Are the authorities really going to shut them all down? Many will have spent a lot of money of lease agreements and shopfitting costs, are they expected to close down and eat their losses?

Pattaya Walking Street cannabis sellers need, but cannot get, licenses
Published on Saturday, December 10, 2022 17:34
By Neill Fronde
In the battle to regulate cannabis after its decriminalisation, street stalls in Pattaya may be the next to fall. Police are warning market and street vendors that they cannot sell cannabis products without a license. The catch is, licenses can only be obtained for businesses with a legal address, which pop-up stalls do not have.

Last night, The Pattaya News reported that police made the rounds warning street vendors that they will have to leave Pattaya Walking Street if they cannot produce a valid license. The Pattaya Police chief explained that cannabis is a controlled substance and sales can only be carried out by properly licensed vendors.

When cannabis was legalised in June, very few rules and regulations or enacted along with that legalisation. Government advocates for legal marijuana, like Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul and his Bhumjaithai Party, claim they intended it only for medicinal cannabis.

Now pro- and anti-cannabis factions in the government are in a policy tug-of-war. Both sides seem to agree that regulation is necessary, but one is calling for tightened regulations while the other wants to just make it an illegal drug again.

The fate of the Cannabis Bill appears to be sealed now. This means the bill, which seeks to decriminalise hemp and cannabis in particular, for medical, commercial and industrial purposes, will not pass the second reading of the House during this parliamentary session

From watermelon to weed: Thai farmers regret switching to cannabis as prices fall
NAKHON PHANOM, Apr 30 (The Straits Times/ANN): When Thailand legalised cannabis for medical use in June 2022, thousands rushed to stake their claim, including small-time farmer Tukta Sinnin.

The 43-year-old pumped in nearly 500,000 baht (S$19,500) to grow more than 400 cannabis plants on her land in Nakhon Phanom, a north-east province by the Mekong River.

However, after nearly a year, Mrs Tukta has not sold any of her cannabis crop, let alone turned a profit.

“I’m very disappointed. We lost money. Nobody wants to buy our crop,” she told The Straits Times. “It’s not a cash crop.”

With the local medical marijuana market projected to be worth about 43 billion baht by 2025, the move to delist the cannabis plant as a narcotic was intended to not just boost national income, but also to help small- and medium-sized businesses and rural farmers earn extra income.

.....
Prospects for Thailand’s cannabis industry now hinge on the country’s upcoming general election on May 14, amid societal concerns over minors’ easy access to weed and criticism of the legal loopholes that allow for recreational use, said Dr Atthachai.

The next government is expected to pass the long-awaited Cannabis and Hemp Bill to plug such loopholes, but there is also a possibility it could send cannabis back to the narcotics list.

It will take some time for small-scale cannabis farmers who are not seeing the promised windfall to turn a profit, said Dr Atthachai, adding that they should focus on other produce for more sustainable earnings.

Weed culture generally disgusts me and so does the smell. And most pot heads dont trust people that to not consume it. Well, it used to be that way when it was more covert, like a private club. I have tried to keep an open mind. For example I used to think weed kills ambition, and yet my eldest - who smoked it every day and is a master gardener, has spread his wings and launched a very successful business and is thriving with many employees. I have yet to ask though if he is using nearly as much and I would guess he is not, because right now he is high on life and wants to make hay while the sun shines. There is too much riding on his cognitive function.
