Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Reading the BP today, one article has the governmenmt saying that the tourism industry must concentrate on high spending tourists. Another reports that booking.com has surveyed its customers and found that tourists will be looking more at value next year compared to this year.

Meanwhile, tourist arrivals in Asia (ex SG and MY) are still heavily down (40%+) whilst the RoW has almost fully recovered. They keep saying China closure is the reason for this and that early next year China will return to Thailand. Domestic tourism is doing well throughout the region.

not trying to hate but I've never read

"the tourism industry must concentrate on low / medium (mass) spending tourists"

especially from the relevant ministries, as high spending elite (don't even start with the magical word ECO) tourism always sounds good.

happy Saturday!! :hattip:

Oh dear, this won't help with the plan to focus on tourists from India.

https://www.bangkokpost.com/learning/ea ... covid-test

India will require a negative Covid-19 test result from travellers arriving from Thailand, China, Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong, the country’s health minister said on Saturday.

Passengers from those countries would be put under quarantine if they showed symptoms of Covid-19 or tested positive, the minister said.

Passengers from the countries in question will have to declare their health status by logging into the Air Suvidha website.

“After landing in India, they will undergo thermal screening and we have issued an order for them to be quarantined if found positive or with fever on their arrival in the country,” the minister was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

Thailand is mandating Covid insurance for foreign visitors from countries that require negative RT-PCR test results before returning home, reinstating the entry rule ahead of the likely arrival of Chinese tourists in large numbers.

The insurance rule will ensure that visitors who test positive for the virus will be able to afford treatment in Thailand before leaving the country, Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told reporters after a meeting on Thursday with health and tourism authorities.

BP also reporting that the Thai government has told tourist provinces to be prepared to reopen the dreaded hospitels (with an E).

It is difficult to see what the proof pf vaccine will achieve since nobody believes that vaccines stop infection and so long as the variant is the B5 (?) then Thais have all been exposed already.
The new Thai rule is massively out of line with other countries who are either doing nothing new or are requiring a pre-departure test on the basis that the variant may be a new one.

this will slow the high numbers down
as note the word ALL ( so as not to be shown as anti Chinese LOL)
proof of vaccine + insurance!!!

BANGKOK POST: “All visitors to Thailand must show proof of at least two Covid-19 vaccinations under revised rules that coincide with the revival of travel from China, authorities said on Thursday.

BUT than notice a paragraph in the middle

...., Bangkok Post admits it is not known when this will come into effect. Meaning it may never do do so. Despite the dramatic headline, this hasn’t started yet and it may never start at all. Wait and see.

Thai's love to post measures & laws to test the waters, than when see the backlash, the law seems to fade away

Allegedly starts on Monday, 9th. Some airlines have already updated their guidelines:
