Anyone have experience with Sky Angkor Airlines?

^^^ Vietjet seats are miserable too for tall folks and I'm just 6-1/185 cm. Of course, that's only the beginning of problems as Vietjet is invariably late taking off and arriving. And really stings you for extra baggage weight.Doc67 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 27, 2022 9:56 amThis is the problem with stopping over, rather than a through ticket. We will have a lot of baggage. Are they generally pretty straightforward when it comes to their baggage allowances?
On the standard international flight we'll be using to get to BKK its 23 kg * 2 is 46 kg per passenger.
The baggage charges and ridiculously light hand luggage is making flying more unpleasant than it ever was.
As a side note, I was on an Air Asia flight recently and was stuck in a window seat. The legroom was the tightest I have ever seen, my knees where flush with the seat in front and I am not that tall. My friend is 6ft 2 and was noticeably crammed in, to the point of discomfort. I don't know if this is a new generation of cabins but, if so, flying just got more miserable. On the return leg we paid for an emergency exit seat at $40 each.
For me, Air Asia has now become an extra legroom flight or not at all.
Re: Anyone have experience with Sky Angkor Airlines?
I’m only 5’7” and I won’t fly on a plane unless it has at least a 32 in pitch. I flew once from Houston to Cancun in a supposedly 31 in pitch seat, I think it was closer to 30, and I almost died.
Re: Anyone have experience with Sky Angkor Airlines?
Bangkok Air looks the best with 31" of pitch and 19.8 width (as opposed to industry standard of 17"). 19.8 is wider than most PE seats. And they give you 30kg of luggage included.ExPenhMan wrote: ↑Sun Nov 27, 2022 10:08 am^^^ Vietjet seats are miserable too for tall folks and I'm just 6-1/185 cm. Aviation and travel industries seem to be going out of their way to make the whole experience as unpleasant as possible, and each year they achieve the impossible- worse than last year. I don’t get it. If you’re over 5’5” and 150lbs*, you’re pretty much screwed, now.
*full disclosure- I’ve snatched these numbers out of thin air

Re: Anyone have experience with Sky Angkor Airlines?
Well, that is OP's point. The 40kg allowance from Sky Angkor solves that problem. Many long hauls allow more than 23kg so the 40kg allowance is a major advantage if you ticket separately. I have never yet bought a through ticket long haul to or from PNH becuase the cost saving has been too tempting to ticket separately, Usually I stay one night in a Lat Krebang hotel, there is a superb one that costs $17. Get a short ride taxi at BKK (no lines for that) and a Bolt to return. Maybe $7 total.Doc67 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 27, 2022 9:56 am

Edit: I just had a look at Seat Guru and discover that Air Aisa has a seat pitch of 29" which is a f**king piss take.
Cambodian Angkor offer 30kg, Lanmei and PG (Bangkok Air) 20kg. Air Asia and Vietjet charge so much they lose their price advantage so only worth using if you have zero check-in. Thai Smile don't seem interested in competing on price, just relying on the odd Thai loyalist.
As for comfort - Sky Angkor and Lanmei are both pretty rough and ready but seat pitch is OKish.
I hear Cambodia Angkor is quite good.
Air Asia does have a tight seat pitch, never flown Vietjet. I find Air Asia's timekeeping good however.
PG has very good seat pitch ahead of the exit row but bad behind it. And you get the free economy lounge in BKK (but not now in PNH).
For Thai domestic flights, PG are great, often cheaper than AirAsia and free 20kg. And there are lounges at BKK, CMX, HKT etc.
If you fly in the middle rows you at least get a bit more width to your seat as the curvature of the fuselage means the seats get narrower towards the front and the back.

I've taken quite a few Bangkok Air flights between BKK/PNH over the years. They always had better arrival times, i.e., outside of rush hours.Doc67 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 27, 2022 10:28 amBangkok Air looks the best with 31" of pitch and 19.8 width (as opposed to industry standard of 17"). 19.8 is wider than most PE seats. Re: Anyone have experience with Sky Angkor Airlines?
I used to fly Bangkok Air a lot (between SR and BKK) and for me it is the best short-haul airline I know. I will only fly Vietjet and Air Asia if there absolutely no alternatives. At 186 cm, they just do not do it for me.
Re: Anyone have experience with Sky Angkor Airlines?
I used Air Asia for flights to and from Australia but I spent the extra dollars to fly in their business class (40kg check-in allowance and you can pay for 40kg more). You could get a seat on sale for the same price as economy at times but few and far between. Never had any problems with them but KL Int airport is a fairly boring place to be when you depart or arrive early on stopovers.
As for Cambodia Angkor Air I used them a lot when in Cambodia and they were okay but their on-line help desk was almost non-existent.
Flown Vietjetair and again no real issues but they are a budget airline so it's a no frills flight.
I used to fly Thai Smiles and Air Asia to Bangkok out of Siem Reap and again no major problems but the flights are only short haul.

Re: Anyone have experience with Sky Angkor Airlines?
Flight times has now become a primary consideration for me. It was after a flight from London to Spain this year when I booked a 7am flight from Stanstead: awake at 03:00 (why??); up at 03:30; left the house at 04:00, arrived 04:45 and needed most of those 135 minutes to move through the swarms of people.ExPenhMan wrote: ↑Sun Nov 27, 2022 11:05 amI've taken quite a few Bangkok Air flights between BKK/PNH over the years. But it was the almost total loss of a night's sleep that induced jet lag because by 4pm I passed out on my bed, totally shagged. Just because I have to get up 4 hours earlier than normal, I can't get to sleep 4 hours earlier. For long weekend trips this is just not worth it to save £50.
From now on short haul flights need to ideally leave between 10am 2pm. This should avoid rush hour traffic issues and check-in / check-out issues.
I know I am a grumpy bollocks sometimes, but life is getting too short to faff about for the sake of a few quid.
Re: Anyone have experience with Sky Angkor Airlines?
^^^ For me, it's the arrival times. I pay extra to arrive in the morning, whether going to or coming from Canada. I hate arriving late evening. When I arrive, I want to immediately relax and take advantage of the entire range of delights the city offers. My departure times from BKK or Toronto are usually just either side of midnight.
On short range flights, I do not want to plunge into rush hour traffic with all the stress, which is why I paid the higher fares on Bangkok Air for trips to PNH and SR to arrive between rush hours. Vietnam Air also tended to have late morning/early afternoon arrival times in Saigon, which cost more than Vietjet.
I too am a grumpy old goat and will forsake thrifty fares and poor arrival times for uncontested passport and taxi lineups and free-flowing roads.
