Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On June 9, 2022, 4 sacred quartz crystals that were found in July 2021 during the preservation of Ta Kao gate of the Angkor Thom temple complex have been restored to their original places.

According to Meng Sovannlilin, one of the experts in the preservation of the Ta Kao gate, the sacred crystals were embedded into the tower gate when it was first constructed in order to bless and empower the site. Therefore, the authorities observed the correct rituals to place them back appropriately.

UPDATE
Restoration of Angkor Thom's Takao Gate Completed
AKP Phnom Penh, February 08, 2023 --
The restoration project of Angkor Thom's Takav Gate has been completed, and the team is currently clearing the site and completing only a few remaining works, said the APSARA National Authority’s news release issued this afternoon.

Deputy Director General of APSARA National Authority H.E. Kim Sothin said that the authority’s restoration team continues to restore the wall next to the gate of only five metres long and 1.4 meters high, located on both sides of the gate, according to the recommendations of ICC-Angkor experts to restore the original shape of the gate structure.

The remaining work is to carve some artwork and fill in the gaps on the wall next to the gate and it will be completed soon, he pointed out, adding that as for repairing the Deva statues of the balustrade, the team will continue to restore them with a full figure, arms, legs, and some heads, while the Asura statues are a bit complicated because of the foundation.

He continued that before completing the restoration work of the whole gate, the APSARA National Authority conducted excavations at the gate's entrance to understand the gate's bottom structure. “We found holes for wooden pillars in the laterite and sandstone floors, which may have been wooden structures at that time,” he underlined.
