Cambodia News (Svay Rieng): On 15 November 2022, the competent authorities and provincial health officials investigated the case of a 26 year old factory worker named Seng Ratana (alias Srey Huch), after the local newspaper published the story of a pregnant woman who gave birth and fainted from shock after a snake devoured her newborn baby daughter in Svay Teap district.

To the surprise of the villagers, none of the woman's story was true; there was no baby and no snake, and it has been established that the woman invented the whole scenario.
The police established the fabrication after receiving results from doctors confirming that the woman was not pregnant at the time of the alleged incident. The results from ultrasound examination at Svay Teap Referral Hospital on 13 June 2022 did not show any results of pregnancy and the same happened again on 26 October 2022 when Seng Ratana undergone another ultrasound by Dr. Chanthorn. Seng Ratana asked Dr. Chanthorn to confirm that she was pregnant, but the doctor did not heed this request.
Finally, on 8 November 2022, Ms. Seng Ratana was again examined in Svay Rieng Provincial Hospital, which again confirmed that Ms. Seng Ratana was not pregnant. Soon after this, the woman made up the story of the baby-eating snake.

Authorities have not yet established the reason which led this woman to create a story which shocked her community and many questions still linger.
However, it seems that the woman was very anxious to become pregnant, and this may have disturbed her mental condition to the extent where she convinced herself that she had given birth, and the snake story was invented to account for the missing baby.
