Fisherman Gets Drunk and Drowns on Haunted River
Cambodia News, (Kampong Thom Province): A boat sank on the river in Stung Sen at the eastern point of the old Kampong Thom bridge, in Kampong Krabao village, Stung Sen city, Kampong Thom province, on November 13, 2022. Colonel Kim Sok Makara, Police Inspector of Stung Sen City, said that following the accident, the body of a young man, Kheng Filipino, a 24-year-old scooter mechanic, was recovered from the river at around 7 pm tonight, close to where the boat sank.
According to information, a group of three men were fishing and drinking on a smach boat, when the boat to sank into the river and one man went missing, while two others were fished out of the water before they drowned. The two survivors were aged 57 and 41-years-old.
It should be reminded that after the incident of the boat sinking on November 13, many relatives and authorities searched for it, some of them paid for the rescue, and some of them dragged the net and some of them were still searching when Cham people came to help dive again. They also hired a Cham fortune teller, and then, miraculously, one day later, the body floated up near the same place. According to local superstition, the eastern end of the Kampong Thom bridge is believed to be haunted by ghosts, because some schoolchildren drowned there last August.
The police have appealed to all local people, if you want to go down to the river, be very careful for your health and safety, especially do not drink on the boat, so we do not have another tragic incident like this one.
