Cambodian Soldier in Armed Standoff with Thai SWAT Team

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Shows how professional the Thai's are IMO. A life is worth waiting for, they have the brains to know he's just upset. Not something to kill someone over even if you can.

JB, can you at least put some wink smileys in your post. Most people think you’re being serious.

You’re too dry.

Some people think the only way to get the attention they need is with a threat.

Undisturbed sleep how you suppose that's going to happen with the monks waking you up at 4:30 am and dogs barking all night.
Exactly. That’s the point. The monks are probably a minor thing, though. The rampaging dogs, the excessively loud music from amps that are driven into distortion and then supplemented by off key karaoke. The deliberate plan to stay up late, and get up early, and catch snatches of top-up sleep during the day.

Sleep deprivation is a key factor in behavioural issues- driving cars when sleep deprived is equally as erratic as being intoxicated, but sleep deficit is largely unquantifiable.

Add in drink. Drug issues. Social issues like poverty, leading to desperation.
It would not surprise me if someone were to report that a large proportion of the various armed services for instance, were undertaking some questionable means to make up for fatigue.

Such a pity he didn't use the gun to end his own miserable day!

I'm not really sure I'd write that...

I think for someone with the license plate 'PICH.NIK' you can drop the argument of poverty. That plate alone cost more than a garment worker will make in a year, probably multiple years. Too lazy too look up the price of a similar plate. Guess it runs above 10k because of the word 'pich'.

For me, this shows just another spoiled Cambodian guy, feeling entitled, being larger than the law (and in country probably rightly so) doing the wrong stuff in the wrong place because he generally can. If he would have pulled these tricks while coming from his Thai mistress he might have gotten away with it on this side of the border.

Diamond Nik.... :please:

It was an honest mistake due to excessive alcohol consumption.
He should have taken a left to the KTV but unfortunately took a right, which caused a surprise to the Thai authorities.

Luckily no one was harmed and the soldier has agreed to take a left in the future.
