Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On 5 November 2022, the Information Technology Department published informatrion on the detention of a female suspect on 2 November 2022. The accused is a 24-year-old Cambodian woman involved in a case of money laundering on Facebook. The scam was done under the guise of posting on Facebook groups and contacting potential victims to offer currency conversion of US dollars(USD) into Chinese yuan in order to buy goods from China.

After interrogation, the suspect admitted that she had indeed committed the act. Judicial police officers from the Information Technology Department have now compiled a case file and sent the suspect to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for legal action.

Once again, the Department of Information Technology would like to remind all citizens to be very cautious about all forms of technology fraud, especially involving the payment of cash for services or goods in advance without knowing the identity of the person or the business.
