Two Russians Arrested for Circulating Counterfeit Money, SHV

Sihanoukville, Cambodia: On 31 January 2015 around 07:30 am, polices arrested two foreigners for circulating fake money in Sihanoukville city, Sihanoukville province.

Police said: “the first suspect names Aleksei Nesterenko, tattooist, male, 34 years old, Russian holding passport #717084464. The second suspect names Baydakov Denis, tattooist, male, 30 years old, Russian (no passport)”.

They have circulated $240 worth of fake money in Sihanoukville. Recently the police are filing the case to send them to the court.

They probably used ruble bills and printed on top of them to save them the cost of buying paper.

^^^^ Funny stuff. Never heard of counterfeiting 5s & 10s - why bother considering that the penalties are usually quite stiff. Reminds me of something I read after the Iron Curtain went down - anyway some Polish guy got 50 years hard time & a $800,000 fine for counterfeiting 100s of millions of Polish Zlotys in Miami. They were worth like $3500. The ultimate Polack joke.

The notes look very real. Is there an easy way you can whether the note is counterfeit on the spot without using sophisticated tech? I never paid attention when received change nor can tell the difference unless is paper note is obvious.

Some copiers & ink jet printers were so good that the Secret Service got importation banned. There's security tapes, water marks, & color changing inks, but it's tough to get the right feel with the paper, rag, or whatever it is. The best bleach out 1s and print 100s on them.

Because how many people/businesses actually bother to thoroughly check small denominations? $100 bills yes, $50's sometimes...5's and 10's never.

saw a couple fake hundys yesterday in sv. they had a blue printed stripe instead of a hologram.
looked quite dodgy.
geezer reckoned from atm.
